Global Hand Sign campaign launched

Gloria Masters and our Global Ambassador Scott Beard have launched a powerful new campaign to raise awareness about the Global Hand Sign for Under 16s — a silent cry for help used by children who are not safe. Drawing on decades of frontline experience, they are urging adults to learn the sign and protect our most vulnerable.

The message from Gloria and Scott is simple, the more the Global Hand Sign is shared, the more children can be saved.

If you see something, do something.

  • The Global Hand Sign for U16s is now being shared across ACC sites throughout New Zealand, helping raise awareness and supporting conversations around child safety and abuse.

  • The Global Hand Sign for U16s is now included within the NZ Police internal app for police personnel. The Keeping Ourselves Safe programme, taught in schools across New Zealand, now includes the hand sign as part of its child safety education.

  • The book, Keeping Kids Safe: A Roadmap for Parents, Teachers & Others, includes the Global Hand Sign for U16s and is now in every Oranga Tamariki – Ministry for Children office. This includes 56 sites across New Zealand, ensuring frontline staff are supported with consistent, practical guidance.
